Physiotherapy uses a combination of manual therapies, physical therapies and remedial exercises to address pain and dysfunction in your horse.

- Mobilisation of joint, ligaments, tendons, muscel, fascia

- Stretching and massage

- Stress point massage, akupressur, masterson method,  trigger point massage, tender point relief etc.

- Physical therapie (novafon, heat- and cold therapy, kinesiological taping, etc.)

- Osteopathy

Alltogether it not only influence the treated area positivly, but due to the anatomical conditions it reaches the entire organism and thus also has a positive effect on the psyche of the horse

Examples of what physiotherapy treatment can do:

Loosening joint blockages

Improving the elasticity of all tissues and joints

Releasing tension and adhesions

Improving the responsiveness of muscles and nerves

Improving blood circulation and lymphatic flow

Improving joint metabolism

Improving cell metabolismIncreasing performance by learning or relearning physiological movement sequences (body perception)

Improving vital functions

Sensory stimuli for horses with disturbed perception promotion of relaxation and general well-being release of the body's endophins (= pain relief)

What does a treatment involve and what can you expect?

  • Whatever your horse needs, the background history will always be discussed with your vet prior to treatment. To book an appointment you contact your vet and ask them to refer your horse to me for physiotherapy or call me directly to discuss your problen and book and i will contact your vet.  A treatment lasts about an hour and may include:
  • Examination of the horse at walk and trot and maybe on lunge or ridden
  • Examination for spinal pain, stiffness and alignment
  • Assessment of joint range, looking for stiffness, restriction or pain, symmetry of the skeleton and muscle
  • Assessment of muscular function, tightness and spasm, myofascial tightness, general condition
  • Assessment of the saddle and equipment if needed
  • Treatment with manual therapies, physical therapies and osteopathy as required
  • Provision of a exercise programm
  • Support between appointments

WHAT TREATMENTS CAN I OFFER YOUR HORSE?

Physiotherapy

- manuell therapies (stretching, mobilisation, massage, stress point massage (Jack Meagher), release vertebral blockages, release joint blockages, acupressur, release of myofascial triggerpoints

- physical/electrotherapies: using novafon, TENS, cold and heat therapie etc.

- training plans, fascial training

- kinesiological taping, acupressur taping

Osteopathy

- craniosacral Osteopathy (cranium = skull, sacral = sacrum (os sacrum) for the treatment of the central control system of the body, the brain and the structures surrounding this system. The focus is on the treatment of the skull structures (cranial bones, sutures (seams) and membranes), the head joints and meninges. The aim is to stimulate the flow of liquor (body fluid in the brain and spinal cord), which has an effect on the entire organism and the musculoskeletal system.

- fascial Osteopathy for the treatment of the muscle-fascial system through tissue techniques (muscles, ligaments, tendons). Gentle techniques are used here to relieve the pressure on nerves, arteries, veins or lymph vessels and to create the conditions for a healthy organism again. With the help of the listening technique, tissue-bound tension can be followed with the hands in order to support the body's own solution reaction.

- viszeral Osteopathy for the treatment of the internal organs (viscera). The focus of this treatment is to restore the mobility of the organs and the fascial tissue that envelops or supports them, e.g. peritoneum, diaphragm, organ shells. The stimulation of neurovascular reflex points on the horse's head, discovered by the chiropractor Terence Bennett, can be used as an additional support. The aim of these treatment techniques is better blood circulation in the muscles and organs and thus better functioning of the organs

- parietal Osteopathy for the treatment of the musculoskeletal system (bones, vertebrae, joints, muscles, fascia). Traditionally, parietal osteopathy represents the basis of osteopathic treatment.
